How to Use Naiomy: The Targeted Internal Massager

Naiomy is not a device you move. It is a device you aim once, then leave exactly where it is.

How to Use Naiomy: The Targeted Internal Massager

Naiomy is built around one idea: the shape holds a fixed angle at a fixed depth so you do not have to. The insertable section curves forward and the body sits against you, so once it is in place it stays there without a hand steadying it. The angle it points and how far in it sits decide whether it works for you.

Got the box in front of you? Download the Naiomy user manual (PDF) for the quick-reference card, button map and charging times.

Before your first session

Charge it fully. A motor at half power is easy to mistake for a device that does not suit you.

Wash it before first use: warm water, mild unscented soap, then air dry. Naiomy is medical-grade platinum-cured liquid silicone and fully waterproof, so the tap is all you need.

Have water-based lubricant within reach, water-based only, because silicone lubricant degrades a silicone surface. Survey work by Herbenick and colleagues linked lubricant use to higher ratings of pleasure and comfort.

Give yourself ten unhurried minutes to get turned on first. The front wall becomes firmer as blood flow increases, so the target is easier to find.

The instinct is to push deeper when nothing much is happening. With Naiomy the answer is almost always to come back out a centimetre and tilt.

Angle and depth: why staying put is the whole point

Start with a finger, not the device. Lie on your back with knees bent, put a little lubricant on one finger and slide it in with your palm facing up. Two to three finger-widths in, on the front wall behind your pubic bone, the texture changes: slightly ridged, firmer, a little spongier than the smooth walls either side. That is the area Naiomy presses on. Note how deep it is, because that measurement is the setting you will reproduce.

It is usually shallower than people expect. Four to six centimetres is typical, so the tip works on the near half of the canal and the rest of the length only holds position. If you insert everything and feel very little, the fix is almost never more depth.

Then the angle. Insert Naiomy at a shallow angle toward the small of your back, because the canal slopes backward rather than running straight up. Once the tip is past the entrance, rotate the device so the curve points forward, toward your navel. That rotation is the step people skip, and without it the tip presses on the back wall where far less is happening.

Now adjust in very small increments. Half a centimetre in or out, a few degrees of tilt, pausing after each change rather than sweeping around. The difference between pressure landing on the spot and next to it is smaller than most people assume, which is why a device can feel like nothing for ten minutes and then obvious all at once.

When it is right, stop moving. This is the part that separates Naiomy from a device you thrust with. The sensation here builds from sustained pressure on a fixed point, so once the position is correct, change the motor setting rather than the depth. Thrusting resets the search every time.

Your hips change the angle more than your hand does. A pillow under the small of your back tilts the pelvis and brings the front wall onto the tip. Rolling onto your side shortens the reach, kneeling forward tips everything the other way. If small adjustments are not getting you there, move your body rather than the device.

Worth knowing Anatomical dissection studies by Hoag and colleagues found no single discrete structure in the vaginal wall matching the popular description, and Jannini and colleagues describe the area instead as a zone where the internal clitoris, urethra and vaginal wall interact. In practice that means sensitivity varies a lot between people and the exact spot moves with arousal. Hunting for a button will not work. Pressure across an area, held for a while, is what actually produces the sensation.

Our piece on what the research really says about the G spot goes into the anatomy properly.

Your first session, step by step

Somewhere private and unhurried, lubricant open, a pillow within reach.

One. Warm up without the device for around ten minutes.

Two. Locate the spot with one lubricated finger and note the depth.

Three. Coat the whole insertable length with water-based lubricant.

Four. Lie on your back, knees bent, a pillow under your hips. Insert at a shallow backward angle, then rotate so the curve points toward your navel.

Five. Set the depth your finger found, usually four to six centimetres, and take your hands away.

Six. Switch on at the lowest setting and adjust the tilt, not the depth, until the pressure lands on something rather than near it.

Seven. Climb one setting at a time. Front wall sensation often arrives as pressure before it arrives as pleasure.

Wearing Naiomy under clothes

The same shape that keeps Naiomy aimed at one spot is what lets you wear it with clothes on. Nothing needs holding, so once it is seated you can stand up, get dressed and go about an evening with it in place. Doing that well is mostly a question of what you wear.

Underwear does the holding. Snug cotton briefs, or a pair one size down from your usual, keep the base pressed against you and stop the device shifting when you move. Lace, loose boxers and anything with a wide leg opening will let it travel. A seamless style avoids the ridge that shows under thin fabric.

Trousers matter less than people think. Anything with structure through the hip works: jeans, tailored trousers, a lined skirt. A soft jersey dress shows movement more than denim does, because the fabric follows you. A slightly heavier fabric hides a line faster than a looser one.

Sitting is the real test. Sitting changes the pelvic angle far more than walking does, and it is the moment a comfortable position turns into a pressing one, or the other way round. Test it at home: stand, walk to another room, sit on a hard chair, sit on a sofa, stand again. Two minutes of that tells you more than any amount of guessing.

Stairs and getting out of a car are the other two moments people mention, because both change the hip angle sharply. Worth having felt once at home before you feel them in company.

A note on sound. Worn internally under fabric, Naiomy is very hard to hear in a room with any background noise. What gives a device away is hard silence and hard surfaces, so a quiet lift or a tiled bathroom is the moment to drop a setting rather than trust the room. Take a short break every half hour or so, the way you would with anything worn snug, and reapply lubricant when you do.

If you are travelling with it, engage the travel lock and pack it in its own pouch. Our guide to travelling with intimate devices covers the practical side.

If you are wearing Naiomy out, an Apple Watch is a far more discreet control than a phone. See controlling your massager with an Apple Watch.

Modes, patterns and the app

Naiomy works with no phone involved. The buttons cycle intensity and patterns.

Steady modes suit Naiomy, because sustained pressure on one point is what the shape is for. Since you are not moving the device, the pattern does the work your hand would otherwise do.

The app also brings custom patterns you build and save, sound reactive modes and control handed to a partner. Our guide to vibration modes and patterns explains why constant vibration is usually the weakest setting.

Setting it up, and what each tile on the Play screen does, is covered in our guide to the Velvet Vibes app.

Together, and across distance

With a partner in the room, the positions that suit Naiomy are the ones that do not push it out of alignment. Side-lying and sitting upright on a partner's lap leave the angle intact and put a hand on the controls. Lying face down with a pillow under the hips presses the tip harder into the front wall. Anything that squashes the base flat changes the angle you spent time finding.

The app hands control over across the room or across a time zone. Agree the ceiling and a stop word first. See using toys as a couple and long-distance intimacy.

For the app side of that, creating a room, inviting someone and passing control back and forth, see Love Bridge and long-distance sessions.

Cleaning, drying and storing

Insertable devices need a more thorough wash than external ones. Warm water and mild unscented soap immediately after use, with attention to the seam where the insertable section meets the base, since that is where lubricant collects.

Pat it dry, then leave it in open air until it is genuinely dry. Silicone feels dry on the surface long before a crevice is, and in a humid Indian summer that gap is wider.

Store it dry, cool and dark in its own pouch, away from other silicone. See cleaning and storing and body-safe materials.

When it is not working

You cannot feel much. Usually the curve is not rotated forward, or it is too deep. Come back out a centimetre before you go in one.

It shifts while you wear it. Almost always underwear. Switch to something snug and full-coverage, or seat it half a centimetre deeper.

The pressure feels good but never builds. Stay at one setting longer, and change your hip angle rather than the depth.

It aches after a while. Ordinary signal to take it out, stretch and reapply lubricant.

It will not charge. Clean both halves of the magnetic connector and lay the device flat while it charges.

It will not turn on. Check the travel lock first. It is the most common cause of a device that seems dead, and almost never on the first page of a manual.

It will not pair. Restart the device, force-close the app, and stay within a couple of metres of the phone.

Questions we get asked

How deep should it go? Less deep than most people expect, usually two to three finger-widths, around four to six centimetres. If you feel nothing at full length, come out rather than push further in.

Do I need to thrust with it? No, and thrusting is usually what stops it working. Find the position, keep it still, and change the setting instead of the depth.

Can I really wear it under clothes? Yes. Snug cotton underwear holds it better than lace or loose styles, and sitting changes the angle more than walking does.

Can I use it in the bath? Yes, fully waterproof. Water thins water-based lubricant fast, so keep some on the edge of the bath.

I cannot find the spot at all. Nothing is wrong. Dissection studies have not found a single discrete structure there, and front wall sensitivity varies widely. Try more arousal time and a different angle.
